R Vision packs its 28/15 mm aluminium ROPP closures in PE bags inside export-grade corrugated cartons, to be stored between 5 and 30 °C, with a shelf life of two years from the manufacturing date. Carton counts across the industry follow the size of the cap rather than a standard: published examples run from 4,500 caps a carton for a 28 x 18 mm closure to 1,200 for a long 30 x 60 mm wine closure. Carton weight, pallet load and stacking height are agreed per order and recorded on the packing list.
How R Vision packs and stores its closures
The on-record position is short, and it is the part of this page that describes R Vision rather than the industry.
| Item | R Vision |
|---|---|
| Inner packing | PE (polyethylene) bags |
| Outer packing | Export-grade corrugated cartons |
| Storage temperature | 5 to 30 °C |
| Shelf life | Two years from the manufacturing date |
| Products | Aqua Cap and Bev Cap, both 28/15 mm with a TPE liner |
| Minimum order | 50,000 plain silver, 200,000 plain colours, 300,000 litho printed |
| Lead time | 4 to 6 weeks |
The bag keeps the caps clean and dry through handling and keeps an opened carton from exposing the whole count at once. The carton carries the stacking load. For export shipments the same packing applies, and the documentation around it is covered in exporting ROPP caps from India.
Carton counts and pallet loads across the industry
There is no standard carton count for aluminium closures. The count is set by the volume one cap occupies in a bag, which is driven by diameter and skirt height, and then by the carton grade and pallet footprint the supplier uses. Two published examples show the spread.
| Closure | Caps per carton | Cartons per pallet | Caps per pallet | Published by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 28 x 18 mm ROPP, MCA neck | 4,500 | 25 | 112,500 | A UK closure distributor’s listing |
| 30 x 60 mm BVS wine closure | 1,200 | 20 | 24,000 | An Austrian closure maker’s data sheet |
These are other suppliers’ figures and not R Vision’s packing specification. Read them as orders of magnitude. A short 28 mm cap takes up far less room in a bag than a 60 mm skirt, which accounts for much of the gap between those two counts. A buyer planning warehouse space should ask for three numbers on the quotation: caps per carton, cartons per pallet and the carton’s outside dimensions.
Working out carton and pallet weight
Carton weight is the number of caps multiplied by the weight of one cap, plus the bags and the carton itself. The 30 x 60 mm closure above is published at 4.6 kg per thousand, so its carton of 1,200 holds about 5.5 kg of closures and its pallet of 24,000 about 110 kg, before cartons and pallet.
| Step | Calculation | 30 x 60 mm example |
|---|---|---|
| Weight of one cap | Weigh 100 caps and divide by 100 | 4.6 g |
| Closures per carton | Caps per carton x cap weight | 1,200 x 4.6 g = 5.5 kg |
| Closures per pallet | Caps per pallet x cap weight | 24,000 x 4.6 g = 110 kg |
| Gross weight | Add bags, cartons, pallet and wrap | From the packing list |
Pallets of closures are light for their volume, which is why freight on caps is charged on space more than weight, as what drives ROPP cap cost explains. Piece weights by size and gauge, and the arithmetic from a per-kilogram price to a per-thousand price, are on ROPP cap weight and gauge.
Storage conditions
Store closures in their sealed bags and cartons, off the floor, in a dry area away from direct sun and heat sources, within the supplier’s temperature band. For R Vision’s closures that band is 5 to 30 °C. R Vision does not state a humidity figure; one European closure maker publishes 30 to 80 % relative humidity for its aluminium closures, which is a fair reference for a covered, dry store.
| Condition | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | Hold within 5 to 30 °C for R Vision closures | Heat ages the elastomeric liner and costs it resilience |
| Humidity | Dry store; one maker publishes 30 to 80 % relative humidity | Damp softens cartons and weakens their stacking strength |
| Sunlight and heat | Keep cartons out of direct sun and away from ovens, boilers and roofs that heat up | Local heat exceeds the room reading |
| Condensation | Let cartons moved from a cold truck reach room temperature before opening the bags | Moisture forms on cold metal in warm, humid air |
| Floor contact | Keep pallets off the floor and clear of walls | Protects the bottom cartons from damp and damage |
| Rotation | Issue the oldest manufacturing date first | Shelf life runs from the manufacturing date |
The monsoon is the season to watch in most of India. A store that is dry in March can stay damp for weeks in July, and corrugated cartons take up that moisture and lose strength.
Stacking and carton strength
Stack cartons squarely, corners over corners, only as high as the carton marking or the supplier allows, and do not put a second pallet on top unless the cartons were specified for it. Carton strength in India is described by IS 2771 (Part 1): 2022, the Indian Standard for corrugated fibreboard boxes. It sets general requirements and prescribes an edge crush test to verify the box’s load bearing capacity, and it leaves compression strength, puncture resistance and waterproofness for the purchaser to specify for the product packed. It also notes that flutes usually run vertical in a carton to give maximum stacking strength.
In practice, that means the stacking limit is a purchasing decision. If your store stacks high or your freight is double-decked, say so when you order, so the carton grade is chosen for it.
Shelf life of a lined closure
R Vision gives two years from the manufacturing date for its closures, stored within 5 to 30 °C. Liners are elastomeric and age with time and heat, which is why a lined closure carries a date at all, and why the storage band and the shelf life are stated together. Plan orders so stock is used well inside that window. R Vision’s lowest minimum, 50,000 plain silver caps on a lead time of 4 to 6 weeks, is often a few weeks of filling for a water line, which MOQ for bottle caps works through.
Receiving a delivery
Count cartons against the packing list, check the batch code and manufacturing date on the labels, and look for crushed corners or damp patches before signing. Then open one carton, take a sample from more than one bag and run the incoming checks in cap dimension tolerances and QC sampling. For regular supply, bulk ROPP cap orders covers the order cycle and water bottle caps wholesale the buying options for water brands, or contact us to agree packing for your store.
Frequently asked questions
How are ROPP caps packed?
R Vision packs its 28/15 mm aluminium ROPP closures in PE bags inside export-grade corrugated cartons. The bag keeps the caps clean and dry and the carton takes the stacking load. Caps per carton, cartons per pallet and carton dimensions are stated on the quotation and the packing list for each order.
How many ROPP caps are in a carton?
It depends on the cap size, the bag and the carton, and there is no industry standard. Published examples range from 4,500 caps a carton for a 28 x 18 mm closure to 1,200 for a long 30 x 60 mm wine closure. Ask the supplier for caps per carton and cartons per pallet before planning storage.
How should aluminium bottle caps be stored?
In their sealed bags and cartons, off the floor, in a dry area out of direct sun, within the supplier’s temperature band. For R Vision closures that is 5 to 30 °C. Let cartons from a cold vehicle reach room temperature before opening, and issue the oldest manufacturing date first.
What is the shelf life of a ROPP cap?
R Vision gives a shelf life of two years from the manufacturing date for its closures, stored between 5 and 30 °C. The limit exists because the liner is an elastomer whose sealing resilience ages, especially with heat. Check the manufacturing date on the carton label when stock arrives.
How much does a carton of ROPP caps weigh?
Multiply the caps in the carton by the weight of one cap, then add the bags and carton. A published 30 x 60 mm wine closure weighs 4.6 kg per thousand, so a carton of 1,200 holds about 5.5 kg of closures. Smaller caps weigh less each but more of them fit, so work from your own supplier’s figures.
